Charly boy Vs The Nigerian Police 


In a statement by the group’s publicity secretary, Raphael Adebayo and made available to Pulse on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, the group accused the Police of the violation of his rights to dignity of the human person, freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association.

Convener of the OurMumuDonDo movement, Charly Boy has filed a N500 million lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force over the attack on him during the resume or resign protest.

Recall that the Police had  'attacked' Charly Boy with water cannons, teargas canisters on protesters who were asking that President Muhammadu Buhari either resumes duty or resign his position as the country’s leader.

Counsel to Charly Boy, Inibehe Effiong in an originating motion dated the October 4, 2017 filed the suit at the High Court in Maitama against the commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command who is joined as the respondent in the suit.

Charly Boy, 66, is demanding a letter of apology published in five national dailies.

The veteran musician is also seeking an injunction restraining the commissioner and the Nigeria Police Force from further interfering with or violating his fundamental rights to dignity of the human person, freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association.

"Charly Boy further narrated that the attack by the policemen was so severe that he collapsed in the process and was rushed to the hospital," the statement said.

“Charly Boy also said that the police attacked them because of claims that their protest over the President’s absence, which had exceeded 90 days on the second day of their daily sit-out protest, had gone international and brought serious embarrassment to the country.

“Three video clips which were recorded during the attack have been attached as exhibits in the affidavit,” it added.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.
