1. Buhari blames Muslims for the rise of Boko Haram
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerian Muslims to avoid extremist ideas, stating that the greatest challenge to Islam was violent extremism. The President noted that Boko Haram became a deadly force and major security scourge because Muslim societies were indifferent from the beginning to the activities of extremist preachers, who manipulate their innocent and gullible followers.
2. 184 doctors from 7 countries write Buhari over El-Zakzaky
Physicians from seven Islamic countries have petitioned the Nigerian government to transfer leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, to a well-equipped hospital. The group of doctors, numbering about 184, in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, noted that El-Zakzaky’s condition had become critical, asking the government to move him to a well-equipped hospital as soon as possible.

The President, who stated this while playing host to corps members in his country home in Daura, Katsina State for the Sallah celebration on Sunday, called on them to use their education “to live up to the expectation of the founding fathers” to keep Nigeria together.

The leadership of the Senate has denied claims by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly, Senate, Ita Enang that there is a N2.258 billion budgetary allocation for the suspended RUGA project in the 2019 federal budget. The Senate also challenged him to show Nigerians where the provision was inserted in the budget.

The directive stopping the District Heads was announced in a statement issued by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ganduje, on Sunday.

Gunmen on Sunday attacked another hall of residence in the University of Ibadan in Oyo State. The armed men stormed the Abdulsalami Abubakar Hall of residence which is comprised of four blocks and houses postgraduate students, carting away valuables and injuring two male students.
10. Osimhen nets brace on Lille debut
Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, was twice on target on his debut for French Ligue 1 side, Lille, in their 2-1 victory against Nantes on Sunday. The 20-year-old joined the club just before the start of the season from Sporting Charleroi of Belgium, and went on to show his worth in the season opener at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
