Woman - "I slathered My Husband Because He Deserved it"

Lagos – The three-year-old son of Folashade Idoko, who allegedly stabbed Lawrence Idoko, her husband to death on Sunday, August 20, at Ayetoro-Ijanikin, Lagos, has testified against her detained mother at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lagos.

When police investigators asked the boy what happened he said, using his hand to demonstrate that his mother stabbed his father with a knife.

His words: “My mummy chuck (stabbed) my daddy with a knife and my daddy died.”

INDEPENDENT report that different investigators interacted with the boy at various intervals on Thursday, August 24.

The late Idoko was allegedly stabbed by his wife while asleep at their Ijanikin home throwing, neighbours, families and friends into mourning.

The police arrested and detained the woman at Ijanikin police station and the case was transferred to SCID Panti on Tuesday, 22, where she is currently being interrogated, while police have locked up their apartment at Ijanikin.

The boy, who is used to spending time with his late father after days on the site is still expecting him back home as he was also heard saying “My Daddy went to work.”

The little boy and his 11-month-old younger sister are currently in the custody of their father’s relatives in Lagos.

Paul Ahmed, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and an uncle of the deceased was among other relatives that visited SCID Panti for a follow up on the investigation.

Ahmed, a former DPO of Mushin police station in Lagos was on hand to meet the suspect and her family members.

In addition to the investigation, Ahmed wanted to work out the release of the corpse of Idoko by the police so as to facilitate proper burial and fast tracking family arrangements necessary in caring for his two young children.

One Adeyemi, another relative of the suspect, expressed shock at the incident, saying “we are all surprised at the unfortunate situation. I brought Folashade to Lagos after her secondary education and I never expected this will ever happen.”

With her son’s, testimony, the detained mother may be walking a tight rope while investigation continues, as she could be taken to the house for murder scene inspection.

Chief Gani Akanni, landlord of the deceased and a community leader in Ijanikin, Lagos, earlier testified that the couple never lived in peace.

“In seven days of the week, the couple could fight for three or four days, which compelled me to give them, quit notice”, Akanni said.

“I had given them quit notice before, but neighbors pleaded and I had to reconsider because the deceased was a nice tenant. I knew things are hard and it would be difficult for him to raise money for another rent,” he said.

Stella Idoko, a Business Administration student of Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo and younger sister to the deceased, who lived with the couple till February 2017, told our correspondent that the suspect lived at loggerheads with her brother while she lived with them.

“I was with them in November 2016, when she injured my brother in my presence” when he returned from work and an argument ensued over a telephone call in which she deemed ‘suspicious’.

He left the house so as to douse tension and while my brother was outside, she made sure nobody, the children inclusive stayed outside the house, Stella explained.

Her words: “When my brother returned, I thought the fight was over. But, in the dead of the night, I heard a big noise in the bedroom. ‘You will kill me this night or I will kill you’ she said, brandishing a kitchen knife, I pleaded with her to stop, in the process, she injured me.”

When my wrist started bleeding, she calmed down. My brother begged that I shouldn’t let our parents know what transpired.

“Also, on January 1, on our way back from the Cross Over Night service, he received a sms from a lady wishing him Happy New Year and even asking after his family.

The sms ignited quarrel all the way from the church to the house after calling the lady and raining abuses on her.

“She would always make trouble for no just cause and it was a major concern before I left them. Even with all these, my brother always tried to satisfy her because he loved his family especially the little children,” she sobbed in narration.

Betty Abah, an Editor with TELL Magazine and maternal aunt of the deceased said the family would pursue the course of justice.

“If for nothing, but to make a statement that domestic violence, either against women or men, and such brutal murder, is not acceptable in a civilized society and anyone culpable must be punished.”Abah said.

She also disclosed that the family were shielded from the entire violence while the ill-fated marriage lasted else they would have intervened somehow.
